Militaries from US, Ukraine and Italy participate in Marine Day celebration
Naval units, aircraft and military detachments from the USA, Ukraine and Italy participated in ceremonies organized on Thursday in Constanta on the occasion of the celebration of the Romanian Marine Day, SMFN informed.
According to the source, the tradition of participation of foreign partners in the celebration of military and civilian marines is also continued this year.
“Spectators will be able to admire a Ukrainian school shop as well as the American destroyer Petrushka and the American destroyer USS Porter. Air sequences will be ensured by aircraft of Romanian naval and air forces, as well as Italian aircraft Eurofighter Typhoon and an American research plane P8 Poseidon,”says a press release of Major and Head of Staff.
The honor guard, presented on the Romanian Marine Day 2019, is made of four military detachments from the Romanian Naval Forces and one military detachment from Italy, Ukraine and USA, with the detachment of “Military Tradition” Association.
Ukrainian school ships and the American destroyer arrived in Constanta port on August 12, for a three day stop when they had visits to tourist sites.
Marine day was celebrated in sea and river ports with the contribution of local authorities, of Military and Commercial Marine, under the patronage of the Royal Romanian House, Queen Elisabeth Marine Society, civilian sailors in Constanta and the Romanian Naval League.
The first Marine Day was celebrated eight decades ago, when king Carol II released a decree by which the Marine would celebrate its day on August 15.
Later on, Marine Day was decreed as a military and popular day to be celebrated on August 15. Marine Day was also set up by Decree no. 203 /June 14, 1960.
As of 1970, Sea Celebrations were organized , culminating with Marine Day.
Following December 1989, Romanian Marine resumed the tradition of celebrating its day on August 15.
So, the Romanian Marine Dy has been a reason of presenting the commemoration of the sacrifice made by water heroes, is also a reason of presenting marine traditions and the reassertion of the combat potential and operational capabilities of the Romanian Naval Forces.
