Transport Ministry wants to invest over 120 million lei in modernizing and extending operation capacity in Medgidia port

The Transport Ministry elaborated a draft decision approving technical-economic indicators of investment  objective “Modernization and extension of operation capacity in Medgidia port”a project of 102.31 million lei.

The Feasibility study for the investment objective was approved by the Interministerial Approval Council for Public Works of National Interest in July 2019.

“The investment objective was financed from European funds through Operational Program 2014-2020 and budget allocations, through the Transport Ministry budget, in the limit of amounts approved annually, according to public investment programs approved according to the law” the project consulted by News.ro shows.

The project authors say that, taking into account this potential demand, as well as the precarious present state of Medgidia port,  Canal Administration made a feasibility study to modernize the port, considering the physical limits of exiting port infrastructure. The study showed there was no need for new objectives, but that the existing infrastructure should be modernized so that Medgidia Port should be exploited in the best safety conditions.

The investment objective “Modernization and extension of Medgidia port operation capacity”is included in Romania's  General Transport Master Plan approved by government decision 666/2016 to be financed over 2014-2020.

Medgidia port is located on the Danube Black Sea Canal. It is included in the transport network of European transport interest .
