Net average salary, up 1.7% in April, to 1,735 lei

The gross nominal average salary stood in April at 2,395 lei, by 1.7% higher than in the previous month, and the net salary amounted to 1,735 lei, on the rise by 29 lei (1.7%), with the highest net salaries having been recorded in financial brokerage (4,888 lei) and the lowest ones in hotels and restaurants (986 lei), according to the data released on Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The real salary index for April 2014, compared to the previous month, calculated as the ratio between the net nominal salary and the consumer price index, was 101.4%. Compared to October 1990, the real salary index was 128.8%, by 1.8 percentage points higher compared to that recorded in March 2014.

Compared to April last year, the net nominal average salary increased by 4.5%. The real salary index was 103.3% from the same period of last year.

Throughout the year there are fluctuations in salaries, mainly determined by the giving of annual and holiday bonuses (December, March / April). These influence the increases or decreases depending on the date they are given, leading, ultimately, to diminishing the fluctuations in the monthly salary throughout the year.

In April 2014, in most activities in the economic sector, the net average salary was higher than in the previous month as a result of giving occasional bonuses (including for Easter holidays) or sums from the net profit and from other funds (including luncheon vouchers and gift vouchers), but also the recording of higher productions or revenues (function of contracts).
