New interim ministers nominated by PM Dancila
PM Viorica Dancila has sent a letter to President Klaus Iohannis proposing new names as interim ministers.
The incumbent minister of Development, Daniel Suciu is proposed interim Justice minister, Research minister Nicolae Hurduc as interim minister of Education and Defence minister Gabriel Les as interim Interior minister.
Daniel Suciu is known to have been close to the former PSD chairman, Liviu Dragnea, currently serving a 3-year-and-a-half prison sentence for corruption.
The prime minister also asked President Iohannis to name some interim ministers that she had proposed once after ALDE had quit the ruling coalition.
Ioan Denes, Minister of Waters and Forests is proposed as interim minister of Environment and deputy PM.
Niculae Badalau, minister of Economy, as interim minister of Energy, while Radu Oprea, minister for Business Environment as interim for Parliament Liaison. Alexandru Petrescu, minister of Communications, is proposed to become deputy PM for strategic partnerships.
PM has forgotten to also send the name of FinMin Eugen Teodorovici as deputy PM, and got back with an errata later.
PM Viorica Dancila sacked Ana Birchall from the Justice and proposed Dana Gârbovan to replace it, but the head of state denied. PSD wanted to punish Ana Birchall for her stances and actions opposing the party line.
After the President had refused to dismiss Ana Birchall, PM Dancila called on the Constitutional Court to referee this dispute and the constitutional judges have just decided by 7 votes in favor and 2 votes against that “the president must immediately issue the decree dismissing all ministers sacked by the prime-minister”.
President Klaus Iohannis has retorted to PM Dancila, urging her to come before the Parliament with the nominations for the new ministers, explaining he cannot sign orders for second interim mandates at some ministries, like the case of Education and Interior ones.
“If Mrs Dancila doesn’t understand the reasoning of the Constitutional Court ruling, I explain to her one more time publicly: to appoint a fully-fledged minister, the premier must go before the Parliament”.
“By her request today, the prime minister is practically asking me to violate the Fundamental Law by forcing the institution of a second interim mandate in a row at the Education Ministry. Daniel Breaz has been interim minister of Education for 45 days, as the Constitution allows. At this moment, the only authorized body to decide on the prime minister’s actions and with the Government’s activity remains the Parliament, and in this regard, the debate of the non-confidence vote represents the most suitable framework”, the head of state explained.
At the same time, the President is accusing PM Dancila that she is the one to blame for the minister deadlock in the Cabinet and for the delay of the medical residency exam after the premier and also the Health minister Sorina Pintea had accused Iohannis of this situation.
“The persistence of PM Viorica Dancila to deny asking for the Parliament’s go-ahead for a new Government is causing the serious deadlock that the Romanian institutions are plunging in. Day by day, new major negative consequences can be seen, for instance the medical residency exam”.
The clash comes as the opposition prepares to vote a censure motion against Dancila's government next week.
The pressure escalates as Romania is getting nearer to the presidential elections due next month. Both PM Dancila and President Iohannis are running for the top job in the poll.
