Nicolae Timofti refuses to nominate Vladimir Plahotniuc as prime-minister

The president of the Republic of Moldova Nicolae Timofti rejected the proposal to nominate the businessman Vladimir Plahotniuuc for the position of prime-minister, informs Unimedia.

Nicolae Timofti said that Vladimir Plahotniuc does not meet the criteria of integrity for this position. The head of state reminded the decision of the Constitutional Court of 22 April 2013 which stipultes that the people about whom there are doubts of integrity cannot occupy position of leadership in the state.

‘The head of state informs the majority in the parliament and the public opinion about the decision to reject the candidature of Vladimir Plahotniuc for the position of prime-minister’ informs the presidency of the Republic of Moldova.

‘President Timofti motives his decision by the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and by decisions of the constitutional court which said on 22 April 2013 that ‘ any political mandate must be based on high standards for integrity’ and ‘ it is contrary to the principles of the rule of law to nominate for leadership the people who under suspicion of lack of integrity’ the official press release says.

President Nicolae Timofti asked the parliamentary majority to propose another candidate for the position of prime-minister until 14 January at 12:00.

Vladimir Plahotniuc was proposed for the position of prime-minister by the Democrat party (PDM).
