Parliament leaders decide to set up investigation commission on 2009 presidential elections

The joint permanent bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and Senate  decided on Thursday to send a draft decision to the joint plenum by which an investigation commission should be set up to see whether persons or institutions were legally involved in organizing and establishing the result of 2009 presidential elections.

The official announcement was made by Liviu Dragnea, the president of the Chamber of Deputies. The decision was made by votes of members of permanent bureaus belonging to the government coalition, but the opposition objected. ”There were objections made by PNL, USR and UDMR colleagues who opposed the draft decision because they had amendments to the draft or that the Parliament did not have the right to investigate”, Dragnea declared.

He pointed out that the opposition had time to present amendments to the draft decision until Wednesday, when the joint plenum will make the final decision on the investigation commission.

The investigation should establish „whether persons or institutions were legally involved, or without having any attributions in the organization of elections or establishing results.”
