Parliament: on January 29, extraordinary session on election of mayors in two rounds
The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, announced on Monday that the extraordinary joint session of Parliament was approved on January 27-31, as requested by President Klaus Iohannis.
The Parliament has decided that the Government will assume responsibility on the local elections on January 29.
President Klaus Iohannis on Monday announced in a press statement he made at the Cotroceni Palace that he already sent to Parliament his request to convoke an extraordinary meeting during which the Government will assume responsibility for the law on the election of mayors in two rounds.
According to the head of the state, the meeting will take place somewhere between January 27 and 31. "I have just sent to Parliament the letters through which I ask for an extraordinary session of the two chambers to be convoked. I ask for this extraordinary session to discuss the Government's decision to assume responsibility for the election of mayors in two rounds. The extraordinary session will take place next week, between January 27 and 31," said Iohannis, at the Cotroceni Palace.
In the letter he sent to the heads of the two chambers, Teodor Melescanu and Marcel Ciolacu, respectively, Iohannis asked for an extraordinary session to be called to discuss the Government's decision to assume responsibility for the modification and supplementation of the Law No. 115/2015 on the election of the local public administration authorities, the modification of the law on public administration No. 215/2001, and the modification and supplementation of the Law No. 393/2004 on the status of the local elected officials.
Moreover, he invoked the fact that the regulations included in this law are meant to ensure the necessary normative framework to lead to a more sustainable connection between the electors, the local elected officials and the local community, with a direct impact on the good functioning of the local authorities. The draft refers to urgent measures in a field of maximum importance for the society, showed the head of the state.
"This draft represents the agenda of the extraordinary session that I requested," said Iohannis.
Last week, the president said he supported the Government's demarche to assume responsibility in Parliament for the election of mayors in two rounds and that he would ask for the extraordinary session of Parliament.
