PM Orban: Wheat and corn acquisitions for state reserve must be done urgently

Prime Minister Ludovic Orban stated on Wednesday that the acquisitions of wheat and corn for the state reserve must be done urgently, showing that after the necessary quantities are ensured, exports would be resumed.

"I spoke to the Minister of Finance, we will be able to allot the financial resources from the reserve fund. On the other hand, here, you (the Minister of Agriculture, Adrian Oros - e.n.) together with (Interior, ed. n.) Minister Vela and the Administration of State Reserves will have to urgently identify the necessary quantities in order to ensure food security and to make the acquisition as fast as possible from a procedural point of view, because the measure to forbid exports cannot be but a temporary measure, and the motivation of this measure is ensuring the food security of Romania. We cannot take Romanians' bread off the table, only because it's a market conjecture that stimulates most to export. Sure, exports will resume, but first let us ensure that we have in our state reserves the necessary quantities. And here we will have to move very fast," said Orban at the beginning of the government session.

On April 10, Ludovic Orban stated that the suspension, during the state of emergency, of grain and other agricultural products' export does not apply towards countries in the European Union.
