PSD has decided to vote extension of state of emergency

The Social Democratic Party (PSD - opposition) will vote on Thursday in Parliament for extending the state of emergency by 30 days, as stipulated by the decree issued by President Klaus Iohannis.

The decision was made on Wednesday, at the meeting of the National Executive Committee of the party.

"The Government has reached a critical point, things cannot continue like this. I have a very clear message - the PSD will be responsible, as every time. I have understood that at this moment the Government does not want to massively test the population so that we can then discuss about a restart of the economy and about the gradual lifting of the bans, but we can neither play with the health and safety of the people, as Minister Vela does by his decisions. We have a majority in Parliament, a majority decided to take the measures that the Government will not. We have therefore decided today that we will vote to extend the state of emergency, but also, at the same time, to get the Government to act, to do something concrete for the people," said the interim leade of the PSD, Marcel Ciolacu, in a video message posted on Facebook after the National Executive Committee's meeting.

Parliament will convene on Thursday in an online meeting to debate and vote on President Klaus Iohannis' request regarding the extension of the state of emergency on Romania's territory, established under Decree No 240/2020.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 12,00hrs.
