PM Tudose meets Germany's ambassador to signal bilateral relation importance
Prime Minister Mihai Tudose on Wednesday welcomed Germany's ambassador in Bucharest Cord Meier-Klodt, in a meeting designed to underscore Germany's importance in Romania's bilateral relations, both on a political and on an economic level, the Government reports in a press statement.
According to the statement, Romania and Germany will continue to implement joint political projects and particularly economic ones. Germany is the second largest investor in Romania, and a German company is the biggest employer in Romania.
"Prime Minister Mihai Tudose highlighted that the two countries will further develop the projects under the already existing economic partnership and will make sustained efforts to eliminate possible obstacles. The head of the Executive and Germany's ambassador in Bucharest defined as strategic project the first wide-ranging economic-military collaboration between Romania and the Rheinmetall German company, a complex project, with perspectives for both states."
Ambassador Meier-Klodt voiced Germany's support for consolidating the economic growth trend of Romania and enhancing its role in Europe, mainly as Romania is preparing to take over for the first time the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU in 2019. At the same time, he underscored the importance of keeping up predictability and transparency, a favourable investment climate and the reform direction of the country towards a Europe of common values.
The Government mentions that another important project under the cooperation between Romania and Germany is resuming dual education in Romania as a solution to make up for the shortage of qualified labour, already felt by German employers, as well as by other employers in general.
"Prime Minister Mihai Tudose stressed the relevance of regular consultations with the ambassadors of Romania's main economic partners. Germany is the main commercial partner of Romania, with the volume of Romanian-German commercial exchanges having stood at 26.16 billion euro in 2016, representing 21 percent of Romania's foreign trade volume."
