On a working visit to Spain, Romania's Prime Minister Viorica Dancila on Thursday was received in audience by King Felipe VI. On the agenda were political and economic relations between the two countries, Romanians living and working in Spain, and Romania's presidency of the EU Council.
According to a press statement released by the government, Dancila and Felipe VI mentioned the privileged relationship between the two countries geographically positioned at the confines of the European continent.
They also highlighted the "excellent level of relations between Romania and Spain at a political and sectoral level, especially at the economic and human level, given good integration with the Spanish society of the over one million Romanians living and working in Spain."
Dancila said that Spain is a true European model in terms of citizen integration, both at governmental level and society level.
"From the perspective of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2019, also discussed were Romania's preparations and priorities for this tenure."
Dancila stressed the opportunity to deepen co-operation between Romania and Spain on the main topics on the European agenda, to generate, through joint efforts, positive results for the European Union, for the member states and for their citizens.
She pointed out that "Romania's major goal for the future of Europe is the unity and cohesion of the European project, as the country wants a Europe built on fundamental principles and values, generating prosperity, security and stability."
At the same time, Dancila and Felipe VI also discussed international political affairs.

Romanians in Spain protested against Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, who is paying a two-day visit to Spain, where she is to meet Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and King Felipe VI. A group of protesters was present on Thursday near Zarzuela Palace in Madrid.
“Mrs. Dancila, we are waiting for you with open arms!!!” is the message posted by a Romanian on the Facebook page of “European Diaspora”.
The images posted on Facebook on Thursday show a group of Romanians with placards written in Spanish and Romanian, near the Zarzuela Palace, where Dancila was received in audience by King Felipe VI.
Also, the Romanians in Spain have initiated and signed a petition and then have sent a letter to the Spanish Royal House, informing who Viorica Dancila really is, in the context of the rally on August 10, stiridiriaspora.ro reads.
A group of Romanians in Cordoba has taken stand against the reaction of the Romanian Government on the rally in Victoriei Square, the diariocordoba.com daily reports.
They have sent an open letter to the Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, joining the initiative to call on the socialist leaders of other European countries to use their influence to exclude PSD from the Party of European Socialists (PES).
For this, they gathered more than 75,000 signatures on the change.org website, out of the 100,000 they had as target.
