President Iohannis summons CSAT meeting in middle of Defence scandal
President Klaus Iohannis summoned a meeting of the Supreme Defence Council of the Country (CSAT) on September 14, the spokesperson of the Presidential Administration, Madalina Dobrovolschi said.
“The CSAT meeting, headed by Romania’s president will be held at Cotroceni Palace on Thursday, September 14, 11.00 a.m.”, Dobrovolschi said.
The meeting agenda will include the participation of the naval forces of the Romanian Army in a NATO military exercise and the national strategy in the field of preventing the proliferation of mass destruction weapons.
“There are two elements on the agenda of the meeting - the participation of the Romanian Army in a NATO military exercise in the second semester of 2017 and the national strategy in the field of preventing the proliferation of mass destruction weapons,” Dobrovolschi explained.
PSD (social-emocrat , ruling party) leader Liviu Dragnea said on Thursday, that the acting defence minister will participate in the CSAT meeting and the defence minister nominated at that moment will go on the visit to the United States.
Adrian Tutuianu resigned on Tuesday, after having been urgently summoned by premier Tudose at Victoria Palace, to explain the press release made by the Defence Ministry on the payment of salaries. The head of government accepted his resignation and the defence portfolio was taken over by deputy premier Marcel Ciolacu.
