Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar sent to the Chamber of Deputies the request on beginning of prosecution of former minister Elena Udrea
Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar sent to the Chamber of Deputies the National Anticorruption Directorate the request on beginning of prosecution of former minister Elena Udrea, on two offenses of instigation to bribe taking regarding the election campaign for the presidential elections of 2009.
According to the DNA, the case was built on offenses, through which, during the presidential election campaign of 2009, sums of money coming from crimes were collected and then used for the payment of some services supplied for the election campaign.
In September, prosecutors indicted Gheorghe Nastasia, former secretary general of the Ministry of Tourism, Victor Tarhon, former chairman of the Tulcea County Council, suspected of bribe taking, as well as Elena Udrea, on five accounts of money laundering.
Subsequently, new evidence was obtained on Udrea's committing other two offenses of instigation to bribe taking, for which prosecution needs to be extended.
According to the DNA, Udrea was coordinating the persons who acted as intermediaries for the banking transfers, so that the illegally obtained money would reach the companies delivering campaign services.
The prosecutors point out that in the case Gheorghe Nastasia, Victor Tarhon, Silviu Ioan Wagner, Ioana Basescu and Giovanni-Mario Francesco are investigated under court supervision, the same measure having been taken in Elena Udrea's case, in respect to the five money laundering offenses.
