Romaero, Avioane Craiova and Elbit System will collaborate to produce drones in Romania for the army

The Romanian companies Romaero and Avioane Craiova together with the Israeli company Elbit Systems signed a memorandum for agreement for cooperation in the domain of production of pilotless aircraft systems for the programmes of the ministry of national defence of Romania, informs Elbit Systems, in a press release on Friday.

According to the document, the three companies will cooperate for the technological transfer with a view to producing in Romania drones of Elbit Systems ‘ from UAS tactical platforms, as well as Skylark I-LEX and Hermes 450 and different configurations of Hemes 900’.

The memorandum of agreement says that the Romanian companies will be liable for the assembly, integration, training, maintenance and repairs as well the programme management.

The leadership of Elbit Systems mentioned that the purpose of the collaboration is to offer the Romanian Army advanced models of drones. “We have had  a long cooperation with Romania in different projects and domains for over 27 years. We are proud to cooperate with Avioane Craiova and Romaero to facilitate the transfer of UAS technologies (pilotless aircraft) in Romania and to create work places. Our purpose is to offer the Romanian army a complete and advanced solution of UAS which at the present moment is at the highest level internationally’ stated the vicechairman and general manager of Elbit System ISTAR Division, Elad Aharonson.

The models of pilotless aircraft systems of the Israeli company include mini-drones manageable by military at ground level, versatile tactical drones, as well as long-range maritime solutions. The Elbit Systems drones are used by several armed forces, among which the Israeli army, mentions the company.

Elbit Systems has been present in Romania for over 27 years and is a supplier of MApN in the domain of air, terrestrial, maritime forces and others. The company set  up four production units in Romania: Elmet Magurele ( production and development for terrestrial systems). Simultec ( simulators and training systems). A/E Electronics (electronic sub-assemblies) and Elmet ( advanced parts manufacture) in Bacau.
