Romanian, Moldovan, Ukrainian authorities run joint anti-corruption awareness campaign in border customs
Romanian, Moldovan and Ukrainian anti-corruption and border authorities launched on Monday a citizen awareness campaign, with fliers to be handed out throughout the week in Romanian customs offices on the border with Ukraine and Moldova.
The campaign "Border anticorruption week", running December 5 — 9 under the logo "No passing for corruption here!", officially opened in the Halmeu customs on the border with Ukraine, with a meeting of representatives of the two sides.
"The campaign opened in Halmeu, where the Romanian and Ukrainian delegations met and started handing out flyers. This activity will continue throughout the week," said Radu Lungu, spokesman of the Sighetu Marmatiei Border Police Inspectorate General.
The campaign for rising citizen awareness in the three states is carried out by Romania's Anti-Corruption General Directorate (DGA), in partnership with the National Anti-corruption Center of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, with the support of Romania's Border Police General Inspectorate (IGBP).
"The purpose of the tripartite campaign is to induce citizen awareness about the risks of getting involved in corruption deeds, informing them about the methods at hand to report such deeds, developing a climate of public security and creating a framework for cross-border cooperation. Fliers and posters will be distributed during the campaign in 14 common border crossings between Romania, Moldova and Ukraine, respectively," the Border Police said in a statement.
In Romania, representatives of DGA, the Border Police Inspectorate General and volunteers deployed to the cross-border checkpoints Halmeu, Sighetu Marmatiei, Galati, Oancea, Albita, Sculeni, Siret and the Otopeni Airport, on the inbound lane, will hand out informative materials accompanied by recommendations on having an honest and pro-active behavior as regards reporting corruption deeds.
