Saint Ilie Fair at Romanian Peasant's National Museum over July 21-23
The Romanian Peasant's Museum organizes the Saint Ilie Fair, Friday through Sunday during July 21-23. According to the museum press release, the fair can be visited between 10.00 a.m and 6.00 p.m.
“Craftsmen, artisans, old book sellers and artists bring to the fair: ceramic obkects, dowry chests, icons, painted furniture, old and new traditional blouses, skirts, head kerchiefs, leather objects, rugs,wood crosses, old furniture, household objects, toys and many other beautiful objects you can buy at the Museum”, the press release shows.
Organizers point out there will also be honey, herbs, cookies and the traditional plum brandy.
The fair is organized by the Romanian Peasant National Museum and will be coordinated by Oana Constantin and Simona Hobincu (Museum Education Section).
Organizers mention the fact that, according to tradition, on July 20, Saint Ilie's day, people did not use to work, to avoid hailstorms and did not eat apples to avoid hail of the size of apples.
On that day Romanians remember the dead, especially souls of dead children.
Honey used to be harvested in villages on St Ilie Day.
