SRI: Ten people suspected of terrorism, considered non-grata on the territory of Romania in 2015

The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) announces that in 2015 ten people suspected of terrorism were considered non-grata at the request of SRI, the statements came in the context where the report Europol published on Wednesday shows that 11 suspects were arrested in Romania last year.

‘In the context of misunderstandings connected to the Europol report regarding terrorism in Europe, in 2015, the Romanian Intelligence Service makes the following statements: according to the report of SRI in 2015 10 people suspected for terrorism were considered non-grata on the territory of Romania, at the request of SRI’ the press office of SRI says.

The statements were made in the context where the Europol report regarding the situation and the trends of terrorism in the EU (TE-SAT)2016 published on Wednesday on the site of the institution shows that Romania arrested 11 persons suspected of terrorism in 2015.

‘Countries such as Romania and Slovakia announced a low level of threat, although they were aware of the risk represented by the terrorist fighters who transited their territory’ according to the Europol document.

The Europol report considers that in April, the militants of the Al-Murabitun group kidnapped a Romanian citizen in the border area between Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali.

The document shows that the Kurdish group the workers’ party in Kurdistahn (PKK) intensified the effortsof fund raising, propaganda and recruitment after July 2015, mentioning the fact that

Romania is among the countries which signalled the continuity of the annual campaigns of PKK for fund collecting.

According to the Europol report in 2013 a person of Romania was the object of a judicial procedure made for terrorist crime.
