Stelian Stoian receives approval of foreign policy commissions for NATO ambassador position

Stelian Stoian, former ambassador with the Council of Europe received the approval of parliamentary foreign policy commissions for the position of ambassador, head of the permanent Romanian Mission to NATO. Stelian Stoian will follow Sorin Ducaru on that position who is now assistant of NATO General Secretary.

 

President Traian Basescu signed on October 4 the decree calling back Stelian Stoian from the position of ambassador to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.On September 9 president Basescu signed the decree calling back Sorin Ducaru from the position of head of Romania’s Permanent Mission to NATO.

 

Stelian Stoian, 48, was appointed head of Romania’s Permanent Mission to the Council of Europe in 2006. A career diplomat, Stoian also used to be collaborator at Romania’s embassy in Washington. Between 1996 and 2000 he was at Romania’s Permanent Mission with the UN in New York.

In 2012 he was awarded a prize by foreign minister Titus Corlatean for the activity carried out. In 2003

 

Stoian was decorated by the president of Romania with the National Merit Order.
