Switzerland renounces the restrictions on the work market for the Romanian citizens starting 1 June
Switzerland will eliminate starting 1 June 2016 all restrictions on the work market imposed to the Romanian and Bulgarian citizens, the measures of limitation of immigration which could be reintroduced only in the case where there is a flow of immigrants from the two countries.
The Swiss government adopted on Wednesday an ordnance which includes access on the work market for the Romanian and Bulgarian citizens starting with 1 June 2016.
Switzerland had prolonged in 2009 and 2014 the restrictive measures for the work market for Romanian and Bulgarian citizens.
The transitory period of keeping the restrictions on the work market expires on 31 May 2016 and it will not be prolonged anymore.
‘In case immigration from Romania and Bulgaria surpasses by 10% the average of the last three years, on 1 June 2017 or at least on 1 June 2018, the Federal Council will be able to introduce new restrictions on the work market valid until 31 May 2019’the government in Bern says.
At present, the number of Romanian and Bulgarian immigrants in Switzerland is small enough.
At the moment of accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the EU, Switzerland introduced restrictions regarding access for the citizens of the two countries on the work market. Switzerland is not a member of the EU but it is part of the European Economic Area and the European Zone of Free Circulation Schengen.
