Duster, Logan and Sandero in the top of best sold cars in Russia in January

Duster, Logan and Sandero models were the best sold cars in Russia and January, according to data published on Tuesday by the Association of European Business (AEB).Last month Lada Granta (with 8,255 units) manufactured by AvtoVAZ, ranked first in the top of best sold cars in Russia. Duster ranked third with 5,590 units, Logan was 9th with 3,004 units while Sandero ranked 11th with 2,795 units. Duster, Logan and Sandero are made by Renault. Sales of light commercial vehicles dropped in January by 6% in the Russian market, to 152,662 units AEB informed. It estimates that this year car registrations may have a decline of 2%.

Because of the low volume of sales in January, this month is not an important indicator of this year’s tendency, said the president of AEB, Joerg Schreiber. In 2013 sales of light commercial vehicles in Russia recorded a decline of 5.5% to 2.78 million units, according to AEB data.

Important car manufacturers such as General Motors, Ford, Renault and Fiat invested significantly in Russia hoping for significant advance in that market.

Prospects for 2014 are worse than in 2013. We expect a more stable market and even increase in some segments, Schreiber said.According to an accord signed last year, the Renault-Nissan alliance will take over control of the Russian car manufacturer AvtoVAZ in 2014.Together, Renault, Nissan and AvtoVAZ control 30% of the Russian car market, the target set by general manager Carlos Ghosn being to reach a market share of 40% in 2016.

Renault has three works in Latin America in Argentina, Brazil and Colombia, besides the 6 existing in France. Dacia Company was taken over by Renault in 1999. Re-launched in 2004 with the model Logan, Dacia became a well known player in the European market.
