Healthcare: Global Cancer Observatory: Raising cancer incidence and death rate caused by it in Romania
83,461 new cancer cases have been registered this year in Romania and 50,902 Romanians died because of this disease, according to data published by Global Cancer Observatory, the international platform with the latest data about cancer in the world, which recently published data for Romania, after a pause of 6 years. Compared to the previous report, dated 2012, figures show that the incidence of the disease and that of cancer death rate have grown in Romania.
The incidence of the first ten most frequent types of cancer grew by about 6% compared to 2012, while the death rate grew by 5%.
Lung cancer continues to have the highest incidence in Romania (13.6%), followed closely by colorectal cancer (13.3%) and breast cancer (11.5%). Next in line are prostate cancer (7.2%), urinary bladder cancer (4.7%), stomach cancer (4.4%), uterine cancer (4.1%), pancreatic cancer (3.8%) and uterine cancer (3%).
These are ten types of cancer with the highest incidence in Romania and represent about 70% of overall cancer cases. The number of colorectal cases recorded the highest increase since 2012, while in the case of breast cancer there is a slight drop of incidence compared to 2012.
Lung cancer is responsible for 30% of deaths caused by cancer in Romania. It is followed by colorectal cancer (17% of deaths), breast cancer (10%), liver and stomach cancer (about 9% each) and pancreas cancer (8%).
Deaths caused by breast cancer dropped almost by half compared to 2012.
