Tourism: Project for rehabilitation of Romanian Black Sea beach completed
The rehabilitation and modernization activities of the five beach sectors included in a project financed with 170.45 million euro, part of the Sector Operational Program in the Cohesion Fund were completed and about 278,000 inhabitants will be protected by the reduction of flooding risks, project coordinator Romair Consulting announced on Wednesday.
According to the source, once the project called “Protection and rehabilitation of southern part of Romanian Black Sea coast (Mamaia south, Tomis North, Tomis Centre, Tomis South, Eforie North) financed by the Sector Operational Program from the Cohesion Fund, Constanta has an area larger by 42 ha, through the five beach areas extended by over 100m , accessible to all tourists as of 2016.
The general objective consisted of protection measures and rehabilitation of the beach against accelerated erosion which had affected the area on a length of 7.3 km. The aim was to reduce coast erosion and protect houses and residents in the area.
The European Commission approved on March 22, 2013, one of the most ambitious projects for coast erosion: “Protection and rehabilitation of the southern par of Romanian Black Sea coast (Mamaia South, Tomis North, Tomis Centre, Tomis South, Eforie North).
The overall value of the project was 170,450,084 euros of which 145,680,660 euros came from the Cohesion Fund.
The 100% Romanian company Romair Consulting was set up in 1997 and is now implementing 147 major projects financed by EU, with a total investment value of over 1.8 billion euros, in priority fields like infrastructure, environment, renewable energy, agriculture, GIS and topo-geodesy, POSCCE. The company carried out 18% of projects with which Romania accessed EU.
