Trade: IT market in Romania drops by over 10% in Q1
The IT market in Romania dropped by over 10% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period of 2015, up to 98 million euros, according to a GfK Temax report.
“The IT market dropped in quarter 1, 2016, by over 10% compared to the same period of 2015, to 98 million euros.
The demand for tablets continued to drop. After an end of year with a good performance, both desktops and portable computers lost ground. The market dropped both because of toner and printer sales which dropped by two figures. On the other hand, ink cartridges and multi-functional devices followed a positive trend. The telecommunications sector had a very good evolution in quarter 1, 2016, compared to 2015 due to smart phones in the medium price segment. In point of diagonal, smart phones with dimensions between 5 and 5.6 inches recorded most increases. Ear phones reported and increase of 23% compared to 2015”, the report shows.
According to it, the photo market dropped in Romania by 8% in quarter 1, 2016, compared to the same period of 2015. Compact photo cameras continued to drop while sales of D-SRLs increased.
“In quarter 1, 2016, electronic devices by 13% compared to 2015. The television market was the main growth engine, models from all diagonal classes as well as UHDs continued to grow. Game consoles, loud speakers had increases with two figures. Segments such as sound bars and bluetooth boxes recorded notable performances,”GfK informs.
The first quarter, 2016 proved to be very good for large household appliances, the report shows.
“This sector grew by 26% compared to quarter 1, 2015, to 102 million euros. All categories recorded increase rates of two figures but the largest were for dryers, dishwashers and stoves. In the first quarter, sales of small household appliances amounted to 37 million euros, on the rise by 20% compared to 2015. Vacuum cleaners recovered ground due to cylindrical models, without bags. Other smaller segments such as hand held vertical vacuum cleaners and those with washing had two figure increase rates. Appliances for women and those for hair care recorded increases within the sector.
GfK Temax is an index used by GFK Retail and Technology to monitor consumer goods.
