Viscri village visited by 15,000 tourists from all continents last year
The village of Viscris in Bunesti commune, Brasov County, was visited last year by 15,000 tourists from nearly all the continents, a number of tourists that will be reached this year as well, said for Agerpres Caroline Fernolend, Vice President of the Mihai Eminescu Trust Foundation, under the patronage of the Prince of Wales.
'Last year we had tourists coming from Russia, Switzerland, England, France, Australia, Bulgaria, New Zealand, Germany, Spain. The number of tourists from Spain is on the rise. Only at the end of the year will we know how many tourists visited us and from what countries, but I can say that the number increases year-on-year. We have a number of 15 families that own guest houses and offer accommodation. The houses are linked to an ecologic sewer system, to the great delight of the tourists. We have an overall capacity of 100 rooms. They like everything, but mostly the authenticity, the cleanliness of the village, the people's hospitality, the gastronomy. They say that they have never seen such a clean and tidy village in their country of origin and that so much authenticity and respected traditions do not exist anymore', said Caroline Fernolend.
She added that the tourists can find in the village's museum and in the citadel leaflets in Romanian, French, German and English, as well as, since last year, Spanish and Bulgarian, the latter translated by tourists that initially received the text in English. 'It's very important to offer the tourist a leaflet about the place he is visiting', she stated.
Tourists coming to Viscri, located around 90 km from the City of Brasov, have the possibility to travel by horse-drawn carriages through the village on several paths, or even to the neighboring village of Mesendorf.
'In this way we provide the villagers with the means to have a better living. Of the 167 families that live in Viscri, only three receive social assistance, while the rest have managed to find work, also with the help of the Mihai Eminescu Trust Foundation', Caroline Fernolend added.
The Romanian branch of this foundation was established in 2000, with the purpose of coordinating village preservation and revitalization projects in Transylvania.
Viscri village has become known abroad after Prince Charles bought here, in 1996, a house, returning nearly every year to Viscri, but also to Covasna County where he owns other properties.
