Gas price for households to increase by 6 pc from October 1. Electricity goes up by 5 pc
The gas price for households will increase on average by 6 percent in the fourth quarter of the year, Emil Calota, president of National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE) said on Tuesday.
According to him, the Regulatory Committee takes into account the elements occurred in the natural gas market and the impact of the costs imposed by the distribution and supply operators.
In terms of exchange rate developments, the transactions carried out since April 1 had an average around the timetable of liberalization, which Romania has decided from 2011 with the European Commission, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, respectively RON 72 per MWh.
The liberalization of Romania’s domestic gas market entered into force on April 1, according to the Government’s Emergency Ordinance No. 64/2016.
At that time, Energy Minister Toma Petcu said the population will be protected until June 30, 2021 through final prices set by the ANRE. Another advantage is that after April 1, 2017 gas is traded under conditions of economic efficiency through a transparent purchase process that allows the non-discriminatory access of all market participants.
The liberalization refers strictly to the natural gas procurement price, which is just one element of the final price paid by households, along with transport, distribution, supply and storage fees that make the final consumer’s bill.
However, former ANRE president Niculae Havrilet stated at end-March that the final gas price for households could increase only by 1-2 percent, after liberalization.
At the same time, the electricity price for domestic consumers under regulated system would increase by about 3.4 bani per kWh, on average, nationally as of next month, according to official sources quoted by e-nergia.ro. For consumers in Bucharest-Ilfov area who have not passed on the competitive market, this is equivalent to an increase of about 5.2 percent, while, currently, the regulated price is about 58 bani / kWh.
