The taxes paid by OMV Petrom ensured 7% of Romania’s tax revenues in 2022

OMV Petrom contributed in 2022 to the state  budget of Romania with almost 20 billion lei, approximately the double against 2021 and ensured 7% of the fiscal revenues to the consolidated state budget of Romania, according to a press release of the company.

Taxes, duties and direct and indirect contributions amounted to over 19 billion lei, while the basic and special dividends amounted to about 1 billion lei.

According to the quoted source, the direct contributions had the highest increase, reaching approximately 10 billion lei, approximately four times more than in 2021. They include profit tax and other direct taxes, petroleum royalties, numerous taxes and additional contributions applicable to oil and gas extraction, sales of petroleum products, electricity production, trade in natural gas and electricity. Of this amount, additional taxes and contributions amounted to 7.3 billion lei.

We had record contributions to the state budget, in 2022. They were worth almost 20 billion lei, while our net profit was 10 billion lei. We paid our taxes, our duties and contributions in time, and we observed voluntarily the measures taken by the Romanian government for the partial compensation of prices for fuel. For 2023, the company planned investments of 6 billion lei, the equivalent of approximately 60% of the net profit obtained in 2022. We are a Romanian company, with a major role in the energy sector of the country, supplying over a third of the necessary for natural gas, oil and fuel and approximately 10% of the production of electricity’  said Christina Verchere, general manager of OMV Petrom.

The company says that its financial results have reflected the market context with high and volatile international prices for energy products, as well as the effect of significant investments in the modernization and diversification of its operations, both in Romania and at regional level.
