AHK Romania: Romania has grown a lot, especially in the last 15 years, but it hasn't developed

Romania has grown a lot, especially in the last 15 years, but it hasn't developed, and everything that occurred in the cities' infrastructure area has been 'by chance' and not because we have planned it that way, declared on Tuesday Dragos Anastasiu, president of the Romanian-German Trade and Industry Chamber (AHK Romania), at the fifth edition of the conference "Cities of Tomorrow #5: competitive regions, cities & communities."

"In these 70 years we can say that Romania has increased greatly, especially in the last 15 years, but it hasn't developed. Romania and many cities have increased "by chance". Many things have occurred just like that and not because we have planned for them to happen this way. If you take a look at the infrastructure in towns, in the life-style and traveling area, maybe you'll agree with me. However, after 70 years of rather serious diseases, Romania looks good and it is a great chance for us that the path we take now to be the right one, both in terms of general development as well as towns' development," the president of the the Romanian-German Trade and Industry Chamber maintains.

In his opinion, the Romanian society at present wishes for another way of doing things and the civil society's manifestations in the last two months show that "Romania is in a process of struggle between the old way of doing things and another way it wishes for."

"I think this process is entering a decisive phase. This is the context in which we are in Romania. At the same time, this is true for the cities, municipalities or villages which we live in (...). AHK is determined that in this process, at this time, not to be a spectator, but an actor, to play in the field because we believe that the "best practice" in Germany, the knowledge and experience that the Germans have had in the last 25 years help us, Romania, very much. We should not copy it blindly, we must adapt to the conditions in Romania, because it could be reckless to try to rediscover the wheel, the hot water and walking, " specified the president of AHK Romania.

In this context, Anastasiu stressed the importance of Econet project - an information, networking & marketing platform in the fields of construction, energy and environment, encouraging the participants to be active and to interact on this platform.

"Econet aims to be a platform for inspiration and information in the green-tech and sustainable development area and we invite you to be an active part of this platform. We want you to be active and interactive because we reward interactivity and we will award the most active of participants a few days in a wonderful place in Romania, in the Danube Delta, " the president of AHK Romania further said.

The Romanian-German Trade and Industry Chamber (AHK Romania) organises on Tuesday the fifth edition of the conference "Cities of Tomorrow", a nationally recognised, point-of-reference event, dedicated to the importance of urban and regional development programmes which, this year brought to the forefront the theme of competitiveness. The event is to be attended by over 300 people from both the public and the private sectors.
