BEC, estimated turnout up to 23:00 local time: 45.92pct
The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) announced that, on Sunday, until 23:00 hrs local time, when polls were closed, 45.92 percent of all voters expressed their electoral option in the referendum for ousting Romania's president, according to estimates nationwide.
BEC president, Elena Gabriela Bogasiu, said that the estimate is based on the votes centralization from 2,889 polling stations, of a total of 18,242, with the margin of error of + / - 3 percent.
In urban areas, the turnout accounted for 41.76 percent and in the rural areas - 51.61 percent, according to the estimates.
In the municipality of Bucharest, the turnout accounted for 40.04 perent.
In the country, the polling stations opened on Sunday, at 7:00 hrs local time, and a number of 18,292,514 voters were expected to the ballot boxes until 23:00 hrs local time, to say 'yes' or 'no' to the ousting of president Traian Basescu, suspended by the Parliament on July 6.
