BNR's vice-governor, Bogdan Olteanu, detained by DNA
Vice-Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Bogdan Olteanu on Thursday evening was detained by prosecutors with the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) over influence peddling related to a lawsuit involving businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu.
Judiciary sources said that Olteanu allegedly confessed during court hearings that he went to discuss with Vintu the appointment of journalist Liviu Mihaiu as Danube Delta governor.
They also said he denied having got money in exchange.
The sources allege that Olteanu received the money in cash via a Vintu's intermediary.
The purported amount in this case would be 2 million euros, but it also involved electoral support, marketing services and consulting for influence peddling in order to secure the appointment of the governor of the Danube Delta, an area where Vintu had personal economic interests, the sources added.
