The proportion of innovative enterprises in Romania in 2012-2014 went down 7.9 percent from 2010-2012, to 12.8 percent, according to findings of a statistical inquiry into innovation in enterprises.
According to a press statement released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), enterprises reporting product or process innovations made up 6.5 percent of the total enterprisers, up 0.2 percentage points from 2010-2012, when the proportion was 6.3 percent. Enterprises reporting organisational innovation and/or marketing innovation made up 9.4 percent, down 9.8 percent from 18.8 percent in 2010-2102.
Industrial enterprises recorded a 12.6-percent proportion, down 9.9 percentage points from 2010-2012, while services enterprises stood at 13.1 percent, down 5.6 percent from 2010-2012.
By size, large enterprises are more innovative - 27 percent - than medium-sized enterprises - 15 percent - and small-sized enterprises - 11.5 percent. The trend was similar in terms of industrial and services enterprises. Some economic activities claimed higher proportions among innovative activities. Thus, the most innovative economic activity in services was research and development (54.2 percent), followed by the making of basic pharmaceutical products and preparations (39.7) among industrial enterprises.
By type of implemented innovations (regardless of the other innovations) in 2012-2014, most enterprises implemented organisational innovations (6.7 percent) and marketing innovations (6.6 percent). The proportion of enterprises implementing product innovations was 3.6 percent, while 4.3 percent of enterprises implemented process innovations.
