Chairman of the Moldovan Parliament Andrian Candu, at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace
Romania's President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday welcomed Chairman of the Moldovan Parliament Andrian Candu at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, where he said that Romania is continuously and strongly supporting the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova.
"Mentioning his recent substantial meeting with the prime minister of the Republic of Moldova at the UN General Assembly High Level Segment session, President Klaus Iohannis confirmed Romania's continued and strong support for the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova, highlighting the importance of Moldova consistently implementing reforms undertaken under its Association Agreement with the European Union so as to bring direct and concrete benefits to its citizens," the Romanian Presidential Administration says in a press statement.
Discussions between the two officials included an exchange of views on current issues on the cooperation agenda between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, with emphasis on energy interconnection projects, Moldova's cooperation with the European Union, domestic developments in Moldova and the latest developments in the settlement of the Transnistria case.
Iohannis and Candu emphasised the priority attached in the current context to actual progress with reform of Moldova's judiciary and public administration. At the same time, Iohannis encouraged Moldova to carry through within the assigned deadlines energy projects designed for the physical connection of Moldova, via Romania, to the European energy space and the single market, consistent with the objectives of Moldova's economic integration.
In his turn, Candu thanked Romania for support to Moldova's European journey, including Romania recently granting Moldova a third tranche of a repayable loan. He also highlighted the importance of bilateral projects with a direct impact on improving the quality of life of Moldovan citizens continuing.
The chairman of the Moldovan Parliament also pointed out the importance that the current Moldovan government continues to attach to the reform process, with emphasis on state administration and the judiciary, and emphasised the priority attached to the implementation of the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, recalling efforts in the field of integrity, including the creation of the National Integrity Agency.
Candu mentioned the necessary measures on the part of the Republic of Moldova for the accomplishment within the agreed declines of power interconnections, with an emphasis on the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline project, whose completion, along with the interconnections of the power lines, is essential for Moldova's energy security.
Iohannis and Candu also discussed the latest developments in the settlement of the Transnistria crisis .
