CNSU: Starting today, flights to and from UK - suspended for 14 days
The National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) approved on Sunday the suspension of flights to and from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, for a period of 14 days, as well as the introduction of the two countries on the list of states for which a quarantine is established on persons arriving in Romania.
According to the decision no. 61 of CNSU, the decision was made due to the emergence of a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland and will be established from December 21.
"Given the emergence of a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the request of the National Institute of Public Health, as well as the analysis of risk factors for the emergence of the new strain prepared at the National Center for Intervention Coordination and Management, taking into account the persistence of an increased number of infected persons on the national territory, as well as the daily appearance of new cases of infected persons, both by the circulation of the virus on the national territory and by its importation upon return to the country of persons possibly infected, aspects that generate a constant pressure on the management capacity of the administrative-territorial units and of the health system, (...) the introduction of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the list of countries / zones / territories at high epidemiological risk is approved, with the quarantine measure being established on persons arriving to Romania from these areas. The envisaged measure will be applied starting with December 21, at 0:00," reads the CNSU decision.
At the same time, the quoted source also specifies, it is approved the suspension of flights to / from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from / to Romania, for all airports in Romania, for a period of 14 days, starting with December 21, at 19:00.
