European Commissioners Nicolas Schmit and Elisa Ferreira come to Romania to launch cohesion policy programmes
On Monday and Tuesday 3-4 April, European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit and European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reform Elisa Ferreira will pay an official visit to Romania, Bucharest, Iasi and Vaslui , to participate in the launch event of the 2021-2027 national cohesion policy programmes, to meet with national and regional authorities and to visit several EU-funded projects.
On Monday morning, the commissioners will meet in Bucharest with Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuc?, Minister of European Investment and Projects Marcel-Ioan Bolos and Minister of Labour and Social Solidarity Marius-Constantin Budai.
The Commissioners will then travel to Iasi, where, at 16.00, they will participate together with Minister Bolos and Minister Budai at the launch event of the eight national cohesion programmes. The launch event will be followed by a press conference. At 18:00, Commissioners will meet local stakeholders in a Citizens’ Dialogue entitled “The Future of Cohesion Policy in the North-East Region”.
On Tuesday, Commissioners Schmit and Ferreira will travel to Vaslui to visit several Cohesion Policy-funded projects, namely the “Emergency County Hospital”, a project to expand local pre-school education infrastructure and a meat processing plant that employs vulnerable people and is one of the region’s largest employers.
The Commissioners will then return to Iasi and visit the Centre for Ukrainian Refugees in Nicolina and other Cohesion Policy projects, including: Next to you Foundation, which supports the inclusion of people with disabilities through a social enterprise model; Simulation Center “Prof. Univ. Dr. Cristian Dragomir of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Grigore T. Popa”, a high-tech unit co-financed by the EU aimed at improving the practical aspects of medical training; as well as the SMURD cross-border project, a joint training centre with the Republic of Moldova for emergency interventions.
