European Film Festival 2023 kick-starts in Timisoara on Tuesday, Europe Day

 

The 27th edition of the European Film Festival will debut in Timisoara, the cultural capital of Europe, on Tuesday, May 9, where the event will be marked by a gala on Europe Day, with the 27th FFE's debut film being "Bones and All", an Italian, USA 2022 production, directed by Luca Guadagnino.

"The European Film Festival, now at its 27th edition, is a very important project for the Romanian Cultural Institute and - dare I say it - alongside which the Romanian Cultural Institute has grown over the years. So it is all the more important for us, at an anniversary moment when the Romanian Cultural Institute is celebrating 20 years of activity, to enjoy an edition that we hope will be memorable," the president of the Romanian Cultural Institute (RCI), Liviu Jicman told the press conference dedicated to the announcement of the event.

Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi, director general of the French Institute of Romania and President of EUNIC Romania, expressed his satisfaction for the good collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute, in the joint effort to preserve and promote European film through the European Film Festival, a "very important and necessary" event.

The artistic director of the Festival, Catalin Olaru, said that the 2023 edition will be "even richer" than the previous one.

The president of the Romanian Filmmakers' Union, Laurentiu Damian, said that the European Film Festival "brings togetehr a lot of ambassadors", as film itself represents "a community, thoughts".

The 27th edition of the FFE offers a generous programme, with 33 feature films, 27 of which will be screened as national premieres, and a world premiere.

Apart from Timisoara, the 27th edition of the European Film Festival 2023 will also take place in Oravita, Curtea de Arges, Botosani and Gura Humorului.

In Bucharest, the festival will take place between 15 and 23 May, at the Auditorium Hall of the National Art Museum of Romania, Cinemateca Union and Cinema Elvire Popesco.

The European Film Festival is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute, with the support of the European Commission Representation in Romania and EUNIC Romania, in partnership with UCIN, European embassies, cultural centres and institutes. The partner of the local edition in Timisoara is the Timisoara Project Centre.
