Romania to resume export of raw-dried salami, canned pork to the USA

Romania is eligible to export raw-dried salami and canned pork to the USA, after the final report of the Food Safety and Inspection Service audit mission concluded that the Romanian meat and meat product inspection system is organized so as to provide final control, supervision and enforcement of legislation, the Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) announced on Monday in a press release.

"ANSVSA continued the steps to complete the re-establishment of the equivalence of the meat inspection system in Romania with the one in the USA, responding promptly to all the requests of the FSIS and the United States Department of Agriculture - Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, as regards the additional animal health requirements necessary for the export of raw-dried salami from Romania to the United States of America," the ANSVSA press release informed.

On July 27, 2022, at the ANSVSA headquarters, a technical meeting was organized to discuss the requirements sent by APHIS for the export of raw-dried salami from Romania to the USA.

Through the Embassy of Romania in the USA and the Embassy of the USA in Romania, the FSIS address dated May 2, 2023 was submitted, regarding the restoration of the equivalence of the inspection system of pork and pork products from Romania with that of the USA, in order to the export of meat products from Romania to the USA.

"Consequently, Romania is eligible (taking into account the animal health conditions of APHIS) to export raw-dried salami and canned pork. ANSVSA must send to FSIS the units certified for export to the USA which will be posted on the FSIS website. Also, ANSVSA will submit for approval to FSIS, before the start of exports, the models of labels and export certificates, according to USDA - FSIS and APHIS requirements. In its efforts to restore equivalence, ANSVSA was supported by the US Embassy in Romania and the Embassy of Romania in the USA," the source added.
