Jazz in Church Festival, 11-14 May, at the Lutheran Church in Bucharest

The eighth edition of the festival Jazz in Church brings to Bucharest, between 11th and 14th May 15 artists who will perform in the Lutheran Church in Bucharest.

According to a press release, the artists invited will bring to Bucharest jazz rhythms, medieval music, contemporary music and much improvisation.

One of the magic moments will be the concert of the Norwegian feminine vocal ensemble Trio Mediaval who will interpret Scandinavian and Icelandic traditional songs and ballads together with contemporary music. The three members of the ensemble have graduated advanced courses of early music, specializing in baroque, chamber and choral music. The artists will be accompanied by Arve Henriksen,
a trumpeter and composer with a unique vocal timbre. The one-hour quartet draws inspiration from Icelandic and Swedish folk, church hymns and violin miniatures, blending them with the skill and grace of alchemists.

Among the stars of the edition is Marc Ribot, American guitarist and composer famous for his collaborations with Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and John Zorn. Ribot has released no less than six solo guitar albums, and his solo recitals are unpredictable events.

The first day of the festival will see getting on stage, starting with 7 p.m. Mieko Miyazaki (koto), Franck Wolf (saxophone) and Joanna MacGregor (piano)/Andy Sheppard (saxophone).

On Friday, starting at 7 p.m. the following are expected: Trio Mediaval (voices, violin) / Arve Henriksen (trumpet, voice) and Vega Trails (double bass, saxophone)

The third day of the festival will bring to the audience, from 7pm, Stefan Stoianovici (piano), Mark Lockheart (saxophone) / Steve Lodder (organ) and Colin Vallon (piano) / Matthieu Michel (trumpet, flighorn).

On the last day of the festival, from 7 pm, Marc Ribot (guitar) and Giovanni Guidi (piano) / Daniele Di Bonaventura (bandoneon) will be on stage.

According to the organisers, the first day is sold out and music lovers can still buy tickets for 200 lei/night for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available online at eventbook.co.uk.
