Consumer prices were up 3.8% in February 2019 compared to February 2018. The annual rate calculated on the basis of the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is 4.0%.

The average consumer price rate based on the CPI over the last 12 months (March 2018-February 2019) as compared to the previous 12 months (March 2017-February 2018) is 4.5%. The average rate based on the HICP is 4.1%.
Consumer prices rose by 0.79pct in February 2019, compared to the previous month, while the annual inflation rate rose to 3.83pct, amid food prices rising by 4.46 pct, non-food goods by 3.74pct and services by 3.08pct, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Tuesday.
In January, the annual inflation rate was 3.3pct.
"Consumer prices in February 2019 increased by 3.8pct in February 2018. The annual rate based on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is 4pct. The average consumer price level in the last 12 months (March 2018 - February 2019) compared to the previous 12 months (March 2017 - February 2018), based on the CPI, is 4.5pct, reads the INS release.
The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has raised to 3pct the inflation forecast for the end of this year and estimates an inflation of 3.1pct for the end of next year, BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu announced in February when presenting the quarterly report inflation.
In November 2018, the BNR estimated an inflation of 2.9pct for the end of this year and 3.2pct for 2020.
