Iohannis: for a sustainable route, the decision-makers in the economical policy must offer trust to the private environment
President Klaus Iohannis stated on Tuesday at the anniversary of 25 years of the AmCham Romania (the American Chamber of Commerce of Romania) that, for a sustainable route, the decision-makers in the economic policy must be able to offer trust to the private environment by measures which are clearly stated, transparent and predictable, which could solve the issues in the economy and not create others, maybe even more difficult.
‘As business people you understand best the fact that the performance of the business environment cannot be above the quality of the economic policies which the government promotes. That is why, we drew the attention to all governments, but especially to those of the last year that economic predictability is not a slogan they use on occasion. Essentially, the lack of predictability draws the lack of sustainability of the economic performance, and the business environment knows better that ‘ easy come, easy go’.That is why, in order to obtain a sustainable economic roadmap, the decision-makers in economic policy must be capable of offering trust to the private environment through good, transparent and predictable measures which should solve the issues in economy, not to create others, maybe even more important’ the head of state said.
According to him, the achievements which Romania registered during the last quarter of a century in the domain of economic performance, of the political democracy and the rule of law show the success of the bilateral relations between Romania and the US.
‘The companies member of AmCham which perform in the sector of commerce, auto industry, real estate tradings, as well as in the extracting and energy industry offer more weight to the strategic partnership between Romania and the US whose economic potential must be stated as more and more powerful’ Iohannis said.
He sent to the business people the message that he encourages to develop the opportunities offered by the Romanian economy showing that the US is the biggest investor non-EU in the economy of our country. In this context, the head of state showed that at the end of 2017 the commercial exchanges meant approximately 2.5 billion dollars.
‘The commercial relations between our countries are more and more under consolidation through the increase of the commercial exchanges in 2017 with approximately 40% against 2016’ the president showed.
Klaus Iohannis said that the IT,energy and auto industry sectors are at present domains with economic potential extremely important for Romania. ‘The IT sector, for example, surpassed the share of 5% of GDP being above the European average and in full expansion. Innovation and technology will mean the obligatory platform of the economy of the future, and the creative potential which Romania owns which deserves to be put into value’ Iohannis said.
The president said that investments in the Romanian industry for defence should be encouraged by re-technologisation and modernisation of some production facilities, including through investment arrangements of joint-venture type. ‘The industry of defence and the Romanian energy sector have the potential to become, together with IT and the auto industry, two essential vectors of the development of the Romanian economy. We must be aware of the advantages which we have and to put them to value in an intelligent way’ Klaus Iohannis said.
