Victor Voicu ( Romanian Academy): the industrial production of now represents 58% of the one in 1990
The Romanian industry had such an abrupt decline over the last 27-28 years, that the present production represents only 58% of that of 1990, stated on Wednesday the general secretary of the Romanian Academy Victor Voicu in a conference on the issue of the Romanian re-industrialisation.
‘Since 1990 to the present, the industry lost 2.5 million employees who could be found in 4 million Romanians who left the country during this period- the second drama after Syria, with the mention that there was no war in here. In fact, the drop in unemployment of these years does not come from the economic development, but from migration. Now, the industrial production of Romania represents 58% of what it was in 1990’ Victor Voicu said.
The general secretary of the Romanian Academy showed some examples regarding the industries which dropped which increased in the post-December period. ‘ The biggest drops were in the industry of rubber, texties, metal, chemical, pharma, aeronautics, and naval. The production of electricity dropped by 13% and that of coal with 37%.There are sectors which existed in 1990 , and about which there are no reports now:ore production (iron, gold) tractors production, trucks, engines, passengers wagons and goods wagons. The industry of cement dropped – why should it happen? The food industry – is practically unexplainable. There grew, instead, the auto industry and that of raw manufacture of wood (…) and tobacco’ Victor Voicu said.
When referring to the deficit exports/imports in industry, the official of the Romanian Academy showed that among the biggest growth of this gap is that with Germany, Hungary and Poland. ‘ The deficit with Hungary and Poland is worth being analysed, as there were no big differences between us and those countries’.
As a conclusion, Victor Voicu showed that there are not the results of a strategy of development or restructuring. ‘ The present structure of the economy is profoundly disarticulated. Who established the objectives of the transition? Privatisation is a rule, should we apply it? In fact, the process was like that: privatisation – decline- disappearance.’.In the end, the official said that the Romanian Academy will follow with attention the evolution in this sector.
