Night of Museums 2021 will take place on June 12
The Long Night of the Museums this year will take place on June 12 countrywide, coming up with exhibitions, artistic experiments, screenings, shows, workshops, concerts or interactive tours, but also with online events. The last opening hour when some museums can be visited is 24:00hrs.
Two museums will be visited for the first time: an exhibition of the future Pandemic Museum and the Collectivisation Museum.Overall, 185 cultural cultural venues in 72 localities from 37 counties will join the Long Night of the Museums.
Within the event, more types of cultural venues will display their offer: museums and memorial houses, art galleries, cultural institutes, creative studios and salons, castle, palaces, fortresses, mills, theatres, universities, cinemas, libraries, memorial houses of the communist terror, athenaeums, operas, philharmonics, houses of worship, or experiment houses.
43 of these venues are in Bucharest, with the National Geology Museum, “Grigore Antipa” National History Museum and the most part of the Babes-Bolyai University museums in Cluj-Napoca joining with online events.
As a first, the exhibition “Fragile Identity” of the future Museum of Pandemic can be visited at the Reziden?a BRD Scena 9 Gallery in Bucharest, likewise the original exhibitions at the Arts Castle in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, a hub museum with interactive installations, animations and historical reenactments related to water.
The Museum of Collectivisation in Romania will be also a first at the Long Night of Museums in 2021, which is opened in T?m??eni village, Neamt county.

“From Comana to Iasi, from Bucharest to Aiud , from Craiova to Dorohoi or Cluj-Napoca, the Night Long of Museum this year is touring all corners of the country and it is very creative, effervescent and inclusive. We have over 180 artistic activities all through the country and we are very happy that, after an extremely complicated year, when we were mostly online, we can now invite the public and communities to tens of welcoming cultural events, like in the old days”, said Dragos Neamu, manager of the Long Night of the Museums.
Initiated 17 years ago by the Ministry of Culture and Communication in France, under the patronage of the Council of Europe and UNESCO, the Long Night of the Museums event is held at European level on an annual basis.
In 2020, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, over 60 museums and cultural venues in Romania celebrated the Long Night of the Museums on November 14, through cultural events mostly held online.
