Germany is not only an economic partner of Romania, but also a political one within the EU, President Traian Basescu said in the evening of January 23.
'Germany is not only a business partner for us but it is also a political partner of Romania within the EU. Under the Romanian-German relationship, I hope we will continue the partnership on the objectives related to the complete integration of Romania into the EU. An extremely important step has been taken this year - the full liberalization of Romanian workforce's movement in the EU. We also hope to start in the next period, by the year's end, the accession into the Schengen area, in stages, with the [introduction of] euro to be time when we will be able to say: we have done it,' Basescu said at the New Year Reception, organized by the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, at the Parliament Palace.
Traian Basescu also spoke about the trend of the Romanian-German trade, mentioning that the most important thing that German investors have brought to Romania is 'management, fairness in business, the right business atmosphere.' 'Romanian exports to Germany see an extremely significant growth, and we also see a significant increase in German imports. In the first 9 months of 2013 we recorded an 8.4% increase in exports and a 6.5% increase in the imports from Germany. Moreover, German investments exceed 6 billion euros, a figure which places Germany at No. 3 among the largest investors in the Romanian economy,' Basescu said as well.
