The Dutch minister of foreign affairs comes to Bucharest on Monday for meetings with Ponta and Corlatean
The Dutch minister of foreign affairs Frans Timmermans will pay on Monday a visit to Bucharest to discuss with premier Victor Ponta and the Romanian counterpart Titus Corlatean, according to the agenda published on Friday on the site of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Timmermans` visit comes a little while after the publication of the MCV report for Romania and Bulgaria.
On the other hand, minister Frans Timmermans has other meetings organised with Dutch business people in Romania, as well as with the representatives of some non-governmental organisations.
According to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs the discussions with the NGO have on the agenda the issue of the good governance and the right of law.
According to the Romanian MFA the visit of the Dutch minister represents an occasion for the diversification and the deepening of the bilateral Romanian-Dutch relations and it is part of the political –diplomatic dialogue between the two countries.
During the discussions, the two ministers of foreign affairs will have an exchange of opinion on the way in which the bilateral relations may be boosted, both at political level and at sectorial level. Aspects belonging to the intensification and diversification of economic cooperation will be tackled, in order to consolidate the position of the Netherlands as a prime investor in Romania, as well as to stimulate Romanian investment in this country. At the same time, topics of common interest on the European agenda, with focus on the topical files such as energy security, EU extension policy, Eastern partnership with focus on the Republic of Moldova, institutional evolutions at European level in 2014. A special attention will be granted to the regional agenda as well as the topics of interest of the international agenda, as well as the evolutions in the Middle East, the Romanian MFA says.
The Netherlands is the country which opposed Romania`s and Bulgaria`s accession to the Schengen area.
Last year, the authorities in The Hague said that they wanted to see two positive MCV reports for the two countries before taking a decision in this sense.
After the publication, on Wednesday, of the report regarding the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification, the Embassy of the Netherlands said that the document presents positive aspects as well as worries, so that `special attention` should be given to the situation in Romania and Bulgaria.
`The MCV report shows positive developments in both countries, but worries as well regarding some questions (….).The reports show that special attention offered to the situation in the two countries is still necessary` the answer of the diplomatic mission shows.
The embassy reiterates the fact that ` a state which functions well and an efficient fight against corruption and organised crime are fundamental for the functioning of the EU – in the interest of our citizens and our companies`.At the same time, the Dutch mission in Bucharest said they will study the MCV reports `with attention` and send the Parliament in the Hague.
