President Iohannis met Austria's Chancellor Kurz to discuss about priorities of Romanian Presidency of EU Council
President Klaus Iohannis talked on Thursday in Brussels with Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz about the visit that the Austrian official will pay to Romania on 21 December, as well as about the priorities of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Austria is currently holding the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Furthermore, Klaus Iohannis and Sebastian Kurz evoked the complex European context in which the transition to the rotating Presidency of the EU Council between the two states is being carried out, marked by the Brexit process, the elections for the European Parliament, the completion of the reflection process on the future of the Union or the negotiations regarding the Multi-annual Financial Framework 2021-2027.
"President Klaus Iohannis mentioned that Romania will act with pragmatism and responsibility during its mandate of the rotating Presidency of the EU council, aiming to contribute, through its actions, to the advancement of negotiations on priority files at European level, in a joint effort to obtain results to the benefit of the entire Union," the Presidential Administration mentions.
According to the quoted source, Sebastian Kurz voiced "support for the objectives and priorities of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union."
"Moreover, the two official discussed about the preparations of the visit that the Austrian official will pay to Romania on 21 December," the Presidential Administration release showed.
