Republican Congressman Michael Turner before the US Congress : Romania is an important ally to the US
Romania is an important ally to the US and, alongside with other European allies, continues to ensure the region's security, the Republican Congressman Michael Turner, who is also the co-Chair of the Group of Friendship with Romania in US Congress, and the Chairman of the House Armed Services Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee, stated on Monday before the US Congress, according to a press release.
His statement underscores the significant role of the Missile Defense System at southern Deveselu in protecting the members of North-Atlantic Alliance.
The events in Ukraine are alarming for the region and testing the Alliance. As you know, Russia is once again trying to destabilize Eastern Europe and restore its influence over the lost territories after the fall of the Soviet Union, Turner asserted.
The Romanian Ambassador to the USA, George Maior, hailed the Congressman's gesture.
"I hail the statement of Congressman Michael Turner, who is an old friend of Romania. It represents an important signal of support on the future development of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States of America, as well as it is a proof of respect for our country", George Cristian Maior said on this occasion.
Likewise, Maior specified that the statement evoked the strong bilateral relations and the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the USA, focussed on the common interest of promoting the transatlantic and regional security.
