Urban Romanians have a budget of 318 lei for Mos Nicolae: sweets (72.1%) and toys (49.2%) are the most bought presents
Almost all Romanians who live in the city (88,4%) expressed their intention to buy presents for the dear ones for Mos Nicolae (Saint Nicholas), sweets and toys being the first in their preferences, according to a study of the market research company MEDNET Marketing Research Center.
Following last year trend, the intention to make surprises for Mos Nicolae is higher in small towns (93.8%) as compared to cities (over 100,000 inhabitants) where 88% of the interviewees intend to buy presents. Against last year in the case of big cities with over 100,000 inhabitants the percentage of those who intend to buy presents on this occasion is constant.
The preferred presents are this year as well sweets (72.1%) and toys (49.2%) according to the study made by Mednet Marketing Research Center. The presents are among the most varied, starting with the most common and less expensive (sweets, toys, clothes, fruit) and getting to some more sophisticated and expensive ( electrical, electronics, household appliances, IT and telecom, trips, etc.).
The budget which the interviewees in the urban environment say they allocate to acquire presents for Mos Nicolae will be, on average of 318 lei, slightly higher than last year (305 lei). At the same time, according to the study, most people intend to spend between 100 and 250 lei (43.8%).
In the big cities with over 100,000 inhabitants the average sum allocated for shopping for Mos Nicolae continues its growing trend and gets to 321 lei.
The study was made on a sample representative at national level ( small towns – under 30,000 inhabitants, middle towns – 30,000 – 100,000 inhabitants, big cities – over 100,000 inhabitants) in the period 23 – 28 November 2016. 800 people were interviewed, aged between 18 and 65.
