Romania, China sign MoU paving way for Romanian pork exports to Asia's largest economy
Romania and China on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on animal health and food safety, which will offer Romanian farmers and producers the opportunity to enter with Romanian pork and cattle a 2 billion-strong market with a huge demand for food products.
China is an immense market with an extremely high demand for food products. Today (on Friday - Ed. note) I discussed with the president of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) about exports of Romanian pork and poultry, but also of breeding cows, and we signed the Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation on animal and plant quarantine, and food safety between China and Romania. I am convinced that through the joint efforts of the two veterinary institutions, Romania - China relations in the line of foodstuff trading will further develop, said Xiang Yuzhang, chief inspector with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China.
According to ANSVSA president Vladimir Manastireanu, this memorandum will underpin the development of trading in pork and animal products between the two states, but will also open 'new fields of cooperation between ANSVSA and China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.'
'I am firmly convinced that Romania has a lot to offer and the opportunity opens now for us to cooperate in other areas too. Our move today to open trade with China in the animal health area is highly important,' said ANSVSA president Manastireanu .
For Romanian companies in the food industry, but also for animal breeders, the signing of this memorandum does not only open access to a market of two billion people, but is also a guarantee that exports can start to third countries such as Vietnam, Hong Kong and Algeria.
