Romania would receive 2362 extra-community immigrants, according to the proposal of the European Commission
Romania is going to receive 2,362 extra-community immigrants according to the programme proposed by the European Commission which includes measures to combat immigration on the Mediterranian Sea and the distribution of the refugees within the EU.
The European Commission proposes a mechanism of ‘ relocation’ of immigrants, with the purpose to help Italy and Greece. This programme will be applied to the refugees from Syria and Erithrea coming to Italy and Greece after 15 April 2015 or after the introduction of the mechanism. At a total, 40,000 refugees will be distributed from Italy and Greece to other member states of the EU. The countries will get each 6,000 euro for each immigrant they receive.
In the programme, Romania is going to receive 1,023 refugees from Italy, a quota of 4.6% out of the total of 24,000 people, Germany will have a quota of 21,91% (5,258people), France would get 4,051 people (16,88%) in Spain will go 2,573 people (10,72%) and to Hungary will be sent 496 of the extra-community (2,07%).
Out of the 16,000 immigrants distributed by Greece, Romania will get 682 (a quota of 4.26%), the rest of the immigrants being distributed to other 22 countries.
Moreover, the European Commission proposes to accept other 20,000 refugees, for a period of two years, in a mechanism of offering international protection, at the recommendation of the UNHCR. The countries to take part in this programme will get 50 million euro between 2015 – 2016.
According to this mechanism, Romania is going to get, according to the proposal of the European Commission a quota of 3.29%, 657 refugees. Another 27 countries will participate in the programme of ‘ re-establishing the immigrants, Germany with a quota of 15,43% (3,086 immigrants), France would have 11.87%(2,375 immigrants), the UK would accept 2,309 refugees (11.54%) and Spain – 1,549 (7,75%).
