Serbian Parliament speaker announces agreement between Parliaments of Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria
Serbian National Assembly [Parliament] Speaker Maja Gojkovic announced on Wednesday that the Parliaments of Romania, Serbia and Bulgaria could sign an agreement "in the near future," in the scope set in a collaboration agreement recently signed in Craiova by the prime ministers of the three countries.
"As Mr. [Romanian Chamber of Deputies Speaker Valeriu] Zgonea said, we also discussed the activity of the Group of Craiova, established by the three prime ministers of Romania, Serbia and Bulgaria a couple of weeks ago. In the near future, we will also sign an collaboration agreement between the Parliaments of the three states, which will cover the domains of activity set in the collaboration agreement signed by the three prime ministers in Craiova," Gojkovic declared after meeting Zgonea and Prime Minister Victor Ponta.
Ponta mentioned he wanted to attend the Wednesday's meeting precisely because of the document signed and of the joint declaration with his Serbian and Bulgarian counterparts in Craiova.
"It resembles the Visegrad Group; it's called the Craiova Group, a much, much deeper way of collaboration between the three countries, although two of them — Romania and Bulgaria — are already EU members. Serbia is to open the negotiation chapters [with the EU]. Nevertheless, I think from the regional point of view this collaboration is extremely good for all the three countries and for what we have to do. And the fact that it advances from the Executive level to the parliamentary level is a very good thing; that's why I wanted to hail this meeting and ask the two Parliament speakers to carry forward this type of collaboration," the Romanian prime minister declared.
Zgonea also commented the subject: "The agenda was linked to the commitment of the two Parliaments, together with the Bulgarian Parliament, to sign a trilateral understanding between the three Parliaments in support of the governmental part of the projects set up by the three prime ministers."
He mentioned that the talks focused on Serbia's integration into the EU, on the excellent relations between the Serbian and Romanian states and governments, and on the decision of signing a bilateral memorandum of understanding between the respective Parliaments.
