Russia To Supply Romania With Power Produced At Moldovan Plant

Russian power group Inter Rao signed an agreement with Moldovan state-owned company Moldelectrica aiming to supply Romania with electric power produced at its Moldavskaya GRES plant in Transdniester, a press release of the Group read. The Agreement, signed by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his Moldovan counterpart Zinaida Greceanîi, regulates technical requirements for electric power supply to Romania from the power plant owned by Inter Rao Group. Inter Rao said that electric power supplies from Moldavskaya GRES to Romania are limited, as Moldova and Romania’s power grids are located in different synchronous areas. Therefore, one or several power generating units of the power plant will be separated from Moldova's power grid and connected to Romania’s power grid. The project will use the 400 kV power transmission line from Moldavskaya GRES to Vulcanesti-Isaccea in Romania and will allow an increase in power supplies to Romania to nearly 400 MW or 290 million kWh month. Inter Rao is a transnational energy company, with significant power generation, distribution and trading assets in Russia and abroad. The total installed capacity of power plants in the structure of INTER RAO Group reaches 8,000 MW.Moldavskaya GRES is one of the Group’s most important assets with a total installed capacity of 2,520 MW.
