Today, the six investors will sign the contract for the construction of reactor 3 and 4 in Cernavoda
Arcelor Mittal, CEZ, Electrabel, Enel, Iberdrola and RWE Power will sign on Thursday 20 November together with the Romanian authorities the contract for the construction of reactors 3 and 4 in Cernavoda, governmental sources stated for NewsIn. The Romanian state, through Nuclearelectrica will own 51% of the project company. Four of the companies will have a share of 9.15% of the project, and two companies will have 6.2% according to the sources. The value of this project is almost four billion euros, according to government estimates. Then, a project mini-company will be set up, practically the future company which will construct the two reactors in Cernavoda. This company is the one that will recalculate its own sum necessary for the investment in the two reactors. The deadline is one year and a half to announce the new sum necessary for the finalization of the project.
Nuclearelectrica and the minister of economy and finances (MEF) resumed negotiations on 27 August with the six investors for the construction of reactor 3 and 4 in Cernavoda, after the government decided through government decision on June 24 2008 that Nuclearelectrica should negotiate for the ownership of at least 51% of the social capital of the project company.
The negotiation process with the six interested investors, Arcelor Mittal, CEZ, Electrabel, Enel, Iberdrola and RWE Power started on December 4 2007. The Project company to be set up will finalise, will put into effect and will exploit units 3 and 4 in the Cernaovada nuclear power station.
The government estimated on June 24 2008 that the necessary investment for the project would be four billion euros. Tariceanu stated then that following the government decision, Nuclearelectrica share should be at least two billion euros.
Each of the two reactors should have an installed power of 720 MW. The life span of one unit is 30 years, with the possibility to extend it to 40 years. Units 3 and 4 in CNE Cernavoda will use Candu 6 technology. Initially, their construction had to start in 2009.
